Montego Bay's Famous Festivals

Montego Bay Jerk Festival

Location: Montego Bay – Held at various venues, including the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex

When: Typically in August, a week after Reggae SumFest

The Montego Bay Jerk Festival is a celebration of Jamaica’s most iconic dish—jerk. This festival showcases the island’s famous jerk cooking method, which involves marinating meat (usually chicken or pork) in a flavourful spice mix and then slow-cooking it over pimento wood. This festival is a fantastic way to experience jerk cuisine in all its variations, from traditional jerk chicken and pork to jerk seafood and vegetarian options. The event also features live music performances, local artists, and a lively atmosphere.

The Montego Bay Jerk Festival often features a number of celebrity chefs and popular local food vendors, and it offers a mix of entertainment, food, and cultural experiences. If you’re a fan of jerk food, this is a must-attend event!

Reggae SumFest

While Reggae Sumfest is primarily a music festival, it also has a vibrant Food Village that celebrates Jamaican food and drink. This annual event (July) provides a wide variety of food stalls offering classic Jamaican dishes, street food, and international cuisine. It’s a great opportunity to sample everything from jerk to escovitch fish while enjoying the festival’s lively atmosphere.
